Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

You can exchange dollars for foreign currency at Prosegur Exchange offices in El Salvador. We currently have offices located at El Salvador International Airport, Playa El Tunco, Farmacia San Nicolás Catedral, and Las Cascadas Shopping Center, designed for tourists, travelers, and anyone who needs cash in the currency of their destination.

Before visiting, we recommend checking which location is most convenient for you, the business hours, and the availability of the currency you need.

Yes. Prosegur Exchange has currency exchange offices inside El Salvador International Airport (Gate 13).

This location is especially convenient if you need to exchange money before your trip or upon arrival in the country.

The branches in the Departures Lobby and at Gate 13 are open from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

However, due to holidays, operational changes, or specific currency needs, we recommend confirming the hours before visiting the office.

We offer more than 10 currencies for exchange, including the euro, Mexican peso, and lempiras, among others.

Availability may vary by branch and time, so it’s best to check in advance if you need a specific currency or a large amount.

Yes. Buying euros before you travel can help ensure you arrive at your destination with cash on hand for transportation, meals, tips, emergencies, or small shops where it’s not always convenient to pay by card.

To exchange currency, you must present your ID or passport.

It’s also a good idea to know exactly how much you want to exchange, what currency you need, and, if applicable, to check in advance whether that currency is available at the branch you plan to visit.

When exchanging money, you can use a credit card, debit card, or cash to pay for the transaction.

Acceptance may vary depending on the branch, the amount, and the terms of the transaction, so if you’re exchanging a large amount or need a specific currency, it’s best to confirm this in advance.

It depends on the trip, but exchanging some of your money before you leave can give you greater peace of mind. Carrying cash in the local currency allows you to cover immediate expenses such as transportation, food, tips, taxis, or small purchases, without having to rely on ATMs, credit cards, or bank fees right from the start.

Carrying cash can be useful because not all merchants accept cards, especially on public transportation, at markets, in small businesses, or in tourist areas with limited payment infrastructure. Additionally, using cash can help you avoid risks such as card skimming or unexpected charges on your bank statement.

It’s best to combine cash and cards, carrying a reasonable amount of local currency for immediate expenses and unexpected situations.
